Amir Roustaei had a successful season in Qatar and has now moved to Bahraini football. The former striker of Peykan, Persepolis, and the Iranian Olympic team officially joined the Sitra team a few days ago. Roustaei gained recognition as a young player at Peykan and spent two seasons with Persepolis, but played less frequently and returned to Peykan.
In the 21st league season, Amir Roustaei wore the jersey of Naft Masjed Soleyman and later moved to Al-Shahania in Qatar. Roustaei had a strong performance in Qatar and Al-Shahania, scoring 16 goals and becoming the top scorer of the competition, earning him the Golden Boot. In terms of the number of goals scored, he ranked as the third-highest scorer in the Qatari league, surpassing stars like Baghdad Bounedjah. With this achievement, he embarked on his new journey with confidence.
The 26-year-old striker has different goals for the future: “I would definitely like to return to Persepolis someday, but not for now.”
Speaking about his time in Al-Shahania, Roustaei expressed, “Al-Shahania was a very good season for me, and I was able to achieve excellent statistics there, becoming the third top scorer of the year in Qatar. The extension offer was there for me, but I decided to choose another challenge after success in Qatar, and that was Bahrain with the Sitra team. I want to be the first Iranian to raise my country’s flag high here. It was challenging as the first Iranian player, but thanks to the negotiations through my program manager, it happened. I try to continue my football career outside of Iran, as it’s a path I started last year, and it has been good for me. I had a couple of good offers from Iran this year, but I prefer to continue outside of Iran.”
“Al-Shahania was a very good start for me to kick off my career outside of Iran. Perhaps if I hadn’t performed well, I would have had to return. I am very happy to have played against big teams and scored goals against them. I showcased my abilities in Qatari football, and our team finished among the top 4 in Qatar, an achievement that hadn’t happened in Al-Shahania’s history. We became the champions of the knockout stage, something they hadn’t achieved before, and I’m glad that I could contribute to that. Thank God.
Returning to Iran,
I definitely want to come back to my beloved team, Persepolis, but not right now! Instead, I want to gain more experience in the current conditions and score more goals. I aim to make significant progress. I wish success for Persepolis, both in the league and the AFC Champions League.”
